| Type of Use | Explanation |
|---|---|
| Brazing | Pipe connections, joining metals such as brass, copper, bronze. |
| Silver brazing | Precision metalworking (e.g. air conditioning pipes, jewelry). |
| Non-ferrous metal welding | As a surface cleaner for aluminium and copper alloys. |
| Casting and blacksmithing works | To keep the surface clean during melting, to separate the slag. |
The surface to be welded must be clean and oil-free .
Liquid borax is usually used as a borax solution mixed with water or in the form of commercial flux .
Liquid borax is applied to the area to be welded by brush or dipping method.
As the metal is heated, the liquid borax melts and forms a transparent, glass-like layer .
This layer prevents oxygen from coming into contact with the metal.
The weld metal (e.g. silver solder wire) is added by melting.
Borax remains as slag (flux residue) after welding — this residue is then removed with a wire brush or acid.
It prevents oxidation.
Improves solder flow (ensures that it spreads evenly over the metal).
Keeps the welding area clean.
It creates a more solid and smooth weld seam.
Excessive use of borax may leave vitrification or slag residue in the weld area .
Cleaning must be done after the process (wire brush, acid bath, etc.).
Protective glasses and gloves should be used during application .
Dry borax (powder form) is generally preferred for iron and steel welding ; the liquid form is more suitable for brass, copper and silver soldering .
Clean the parts.
Apply liquid borax to the joint surface.
Heat it — the borax will melt and turn into glass.
Complete the weld by melting the solder wire.
Once cooled, wipe away any residue.
The result: A shiny, strong and uniform solder joint is achieved.
| Feature | Duty |
|---|---|
| Oxide solvent | Cleans metal surfaces |
| Protective layer | It cuts off contact with oxygen |
| Flow enhancer | Facilitates the spreading of solder metal |
| Slag former | Collects the melted oxides and separates them from the surface |
